Good class. A couple of really strong new students (wrestlers?). Re-injured toe on left foot.
Warm-ups
Technique warm-up: Guard pass and regain.
Technique: American from side control, when opponent puts his arm across your throat. For straight-arm defense of Americana — switch grip to straight arm-lock.
Roll: 4 x 5min, switching partners

Re-injured my previously broken toe. Not the first time. Left elbow is healing and feeling good.
Technique was great. Good to have a couple subs from side control (instead of mount).
I rolled with this huge new kid. He must be 6’2”, 205 — solid muscle. I think he was a wrestler. I held him in my guard for two minutes. I tried to sweep him, couldn’t. Couldn’t get up on him for a triangle or arm bar either. After a failed sweep, he eventually flipped me over and took my back. Other than that — no taps.
Lessons learned:
1) I have to work on fast submissions, especially from the guard. Triangle or arm bar have to be really fast if you want to catch someone. This would be good to drill.
2) I’d like to try more new stuff — kimura from the guard, guillotine, more chokes and maybe an omoplata.
3) When in someone’s closed guard patience is important — sometimes I just can’t break it.
