BJJ MUNDIALS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Readers,
If you are reading this post right now, you’re a fool! You could be watching the IBJJF Worlds instead. They’re being broadcast LIVE from Long Beach for FREE.
I just watched a guy named “Cobrinha” finish with an omoplata — apparently in the Mundial tournament, no matches are allowed to end with points. You know what that means?!? SUBMISSIONS!!!

Takedown practice.

Had...

Tuesday class: defense
Warm up
Technique: single leg takedown defense; side control escape; kesa gatame - survival and escape
Roll: 4 x 5 min
good roll. I tried some closed guard stuff from my JJU book: swinging leg way out in triangle; flower sweep improvements; sleeve choke.
Didn’t do so well v. bigger guys. Have to work on paying attention to opportunities, and moving quickly.

Thursday class
Good class. Lots of judo = exhausting.
Warm-up
Technique:
Judo
Side control to scarf-hold position: transition; scarf-hold Americana; scarf-hold straight-arm lock; scarf-hold to arm-bar
Roll: 25 minutes - all standup

Tuesday Class: Armbar
Warm-up
Technique: Arm bar from the guard; arm bar from the mount.
Roll: 4x5 minutes
__
Simple enough! Armbar form the guard, armbar form the mount. Except spending an entire class on this really helped a beginner like me get some of the more subtle points of this technique.
1) from the guard — using the close leg to pinch in against opponent’s arm; using opposite heel to break...

Uneventful. Can’t remember much since I’m writing so late. No injuries.
I think I...

Tuesday class
First class of the quarter!
It was a good break — two weeks — but it was too long. It felt good to get on the mat again.
Warm-ups
Technique: Judo. Unfortunately I don’t know the name of the throw — I really gotta learn the names of some Judo throws, but the Japanese names sound so strange at first. Anyway, we did one where you step between uke’s legs, wrap your...

Submission #679 - Most Points In a BJJ Match -... →
ivan-usdailysports:
At the European Festival Of Martial Arts, Samuel Monin not only got the fastest submission I have ever caught on tape, but he also scored the most points i have ever seen in a BJJ match (before he finally gets a submission). For your reference, the previous highest score I had ever seen in a BJJ match was 33-0 in a purple belt match between Jacob Mclintock (a really...

Tuesday Class: skipped
I did not train today. I went for to a rolling session on Sunday, and left my arm in an armbar slightly too long. Should be fine, just a little sore still.
I’ll lift tomorrow, and back to class on Thursday.
I’ve been watching tournament videos all night. I really miss practice already. I just want to be safe with this thing.

President's Day workout
At my University, we only have BJJ class 2x per week. (Actually, right now, that’s plenty for me, since the intensity level is so HIGH!)
Consequently, I have to exercise on my own the other days.
Today, I did the following improvised work out:
10 x walk hands out, push-up, walk hands back to standing
10 second backwards neck-bridge (to engage the anterior chain)
50 meter sprint (all...

Aikido to BJJ DVD with Derek Nakagawa & Marcio... →
I have trained aikido for 6-7 years. I haven’t been doing BJJ long enough to know if it has really helped me at all.
There are some similar techniques, though.
In Aikido, we do hip throws similar to the judo throws in BJJ. We do shoulder compromising locks (shihonage), and basically standing americanas. We also do standing kimuras.
Many Aikido techniques end with uke submitting...

First Post
As it says in the ABOUT, I am starting this blog as a journal for myself of my BJJ experience. I started training in January, so I’ve been to about 6 classes so far. Here is my background story:
1) I trained aikido for 6 years before starting BJJ.
2) I didn’t really want to do BJJ, but they have a cheap class at my University, and my wife thought it would be a good “couples...
